WHILE THE bombing at the Boston Marathon may not have been a false flag event, it certainly had an interesting influence on the political discussion. Sen. Rand Paul, who staged a 13-hour filibuster in protest of the Obama administration's use of drones to kill American citizens, said in an interview that he could possibly support the use of drones for police work in American cities.

Meanwhile, news that the Syrian government may have used chemical weapons on its own citizens brings the United States closer to war in the Middle East. Also: Deadly H7N9 flu spreads through China.

WHILE THE Irish (in the U.S., anyway) celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we look back to 3/13/13 and the election of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis I. Even Catholic observers are not entirely certain whether his name refers to Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order, or Francis Xavier, co-founder of the Society of Jesus -- the Jesuits.

IT'S BEEN an odd week. Following the surprise announcement of Pope Benedict's resignation, a spectacular fireball streaked across the Siberian sky, injuring some 1,200 people when the meteorite exploded in the atmosphere with the force of about 30 Hiroshima bombs.

Besides that, a geneticist issued a statement claiming that she had solid DNA proof of the existence of a novel primate species: Homo sapiens cognatus -- AKA Bigfoot.

Also: Killer asteroid in 2106 (or not, depending on who you believe); Pope appoints member of Knights of Malta to head Vatican bank; a seat for the Vatican at King David's tomb; "Blade Runner" charged with murder; new outbreak of bird flu in Mexico; black magic in Africa; and Radford University offers independent study in necromancy.

ALGERIAN SPECIAL forces stormed a natural gas plant in the Sahara Desert Sunday, ending a hostage situation that claimed over 80 lives, including those of the 32 militants who attacked the plant last week. It is unclear if any of the hostages survived.

The group claiming responsibility claimed the attack was a response to military action against comrades in neighboring Mali, where French troops (with British support) and a pan-African force (with American support) are moving against Islamist militants. Although the attack was apparently planned long before the French military was deployed in Mali, the question remains: Who is telling the whole truth about Western military involvement?

Also: President Obama sworn in for the third and fourth times; horse meat in the burgers at Tesco; Senator Kirk sees angels; parallels between Rome and the U.S.; and the contentious year ahead in bioethics according to Wesley J. Smith.

IT SOUNDS like science fiction. Or possibly like something from the New Age movement. Discoveries from the world of physics make it appear that the universe is a lot less "real" than we think. And yet a careful analysis suggests that it's all part of an elegant and unimaginably complex design.

Chuck Missler, president of Koinonia Institute, discussed how modern physics, while perhaps shattering our traditional understanding of the material universe, actually points to the Creator of the universe, the One who spoke it into existence: Yahweh, the God of the Bible. (If it all sounds too weird, maybe it's because physics is weird.)

PERHAPS THE biggest mystery facing scholars and students of end times prophecy is the identity of the man of lawlessness, the son of perdition -- the Antichrist. One interesting theory, especially in light of the recent political turmoil in the Middle East, is that the Antichrist will be Islamic.

Joseph Farah, founder and CEO of WorldNetDaily, spoke on this topic at the Prophecy Summit at Branson. He explained why he believes scripture points to an Islamic Antichrist, and discussed how being openly Christian in the newsroom of a daily paper affected his ability to analyze and report the news.

AMERICA'S FUTURE depends, in part, on how it treats Israel. So says David Brennan, author of The Israel Omen and The Israel Omen II.

Since 1991, there have been thirteen documented catastrophes that have occurred with timing that has coincided with efforts to remove the "Promised Land" from Israel. The first ten are covered in The Israel Omen. Long ago, the ancient Hebrew Scriptures warned of cataclysms that would result from these actions against Israel.

David talked with Derek at the Prophecy Summit at Branson about the ancient warnings to those who would do harm to Israel, and discusses his belief that the four horns of Zechariah 1:18-21 are the Quartet (USA, European Union, United Nations, and Russia) that have been trying to bring peace to the Middle East since 2002.

PRESIDENT OBAMA plans to bring millions of Muslims to America. That claim by author and former IDF spokesman Avi Lipkin will no doubt raise eyebrows (and possibly blood pressure). Lipkin, who spoke at the Prophecy Summit at Branson on the threat posed by radical Islam, claims that a looming war in the Middle East will lead to a flood of Muslim refugees landing in the United States.

Agree or disagree, it's an interview worth hearing if only to get a different perspective on the political and religious situation in the Middle East.
